Optimization of mechanical behaviour of TIG welded 316 stainless steel using Taguchi based grey relational analysis method

Abstract The present examination focused on the optimization of the input parameters such as current, welding speed and gas flow rate using TIG welding technique. The 316 Stainless Steel material is selected for the experimentation. The Taguchi’s based design of experiment has been chosen. Tensile strength, Impact strength and corrosion rate are chosen as the response parameters. The optimized values of input parameters were evaluated to attain desired mechanical properties. Desired tensile strength, impact strength and corrosion rate were accomplished at optimum welding current of 150 A, welding speed of 190 mm/min and gas flow rate of 15 L/min using Taguchi based Grey Relational Analysis method.
