Numerical Analysis of the Effect of Magnetic Shielding on Stray Losses in Adjacent Parts of Power Transformer Ascending Flange

To deal with local overheat of power transformer structural parts, a three-dimensional (3D) finite-element analysis (FEA) model based on surface impedance method is established for simulating the stray losses in adjacent parts of power transformer ascending flange. Through simulation and analysis of shielding effect with different materials, different thickness and at different parts on stray losses under different lead currents, a 4mm copper shielding is determined to reduce the stray losses in ascending flange and tank lid. After adding this shielding structure, the stray losses can be reduced by 55% and 32.5% respectively, which can give a constructive guidance for product design and structure optimization.
