Continuous Professional Development For Secondary Education Teachers To Adopt Next Generation Digital Learning Environment Platforms

In this paper we present key pedagogical aspects and implementation details of a large-scale Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program. Its aim is to enable secondary education teachers in adopting Next Generation Digital Learning Environment (NGDLE) toolkits to prepare high school students towards tertiary education. The CPD program was implemented as part of pilot activities conducted by the Up2University, an European Commission innovation project, in eight countries: Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. The scope of this effort is to bridge the gaps between secondary schools and higher education within a comprehensive e-learning ecosystem. Thus, high school students are assisted in their quest to evolve into independent, self-directed learners.
