Investigations into internal roundness of Inconel 625 tubes with chemically assisted magnetic abrasive finishing

Inconel 625 tubes are extensively used in applications like hydraulic lines and heat exchanger of jet engines due to their superior properties. Roundness of these tubes is very important feature. In this experimental work, the roundness of Inconel 625 tubes has been improved using chemically assisted magnetic abrasive finishing process (CMAF). A new magnetic tool has fabricated for internal surface finishing of Inconel 625 tubes using CMAF. Experiments have been designed and conducted as per response surface methodology approach. Experiment results are analysed through analysis of variance. It has been observed that maximum percentage improvement in internal roundness (PIIR) is 32% achieved at conditions processing time = 75 min, Surface rotational speed = 180 RPM, wt% of abrasives = 35%, abrasive size = 60 µm and chemical concentration = 600 gm/lt. Processing time is most dominant factor for PIIR. The surface microstructure of internal surface also analysed using scanning electron microscopy technique.
