Partial discharge diagnostic techniques play an important role in maintaining operation safety and reliability of medium and high voltage apparatus. The rapid development of Ultra-High frequency techniques for partial discharge detection in gas insulated switchgear devices is attributed to the high sensitivity and immunity to interferences. An important challenge facing the RF diagnostic techniques is the complexity of switchgears as a propagating environment for electromagnetic waves. This paper is devoted to present the propagation behavior of electromagnetic waves in such power devices by reporting on the output characteristics of RF waves due to two different discontinuities namely the T-structure and disconnecting switches. The two discontinuities are to be applied simultaneously to analyze their impact together. Finite element method built in COMSOL Multiphysics is used to implement the model.
