Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice: Educating Providers on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

•Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP) can be used to coach the learner on effective communication and engagement skills.•Learner preconceived notions of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) are based on previous clinical experiences.•High-fidelity simulation provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills necessary for treating NAS while reducing stigma towards the mother.•The innovative approach of using RCDP in neonatal nurse practitioner education affords the mastery of the treatment process by deliberate practice of specific skills.•The building of a simulation using RCDP supports the enhancement of learner confidence and empathy when caring for infants with NAS.
