Model Predictive Control of Hybrid Transformer with Matrix Converter

This paper proposes a model predictive control for a hybrid transformer (HT) with matrix converter (MC). The proposed HT system is composed of a power transformer connected to a power electronic converter which controls the output voltage on the secondary side. The proposed solution of HT is used to resolve power quality issues and power flow control in the electrical power distribution system. The advantages of predictive control are its very simple realization and the possibility to optimize various predefined criteria. Presented in the papery is a discussion of the conception of a model predictive control strategy to compensate for voltage sags, swells and harmonics on the grid side by providing continuous AC voltage regulation of the HT. Also, presented are the preliminary simulation results, which verify the high performance of the proposed predictive control.
