Investigation Of Reducing End Detent Force In Pm Linear Synchronous Motor Using Multi-Unit Technique

A new optimization method is studied to reduce the end detent force in permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM)s. Firstly, the end detent force is analytically deduced based on 2D Schwarz-Christoffel (S-C) method. After that, a multi-unit motor structure is applied. The primary iron length of single PMLSM unit is determined to offset the fundamental component of end detent force. Then, the iron distance between different PMLSM units is calculated to further reduce the remaining harmonic component. Finally, this method is verified by the finite element (FE) analysis; the total end detent force reduction of 89.3% is achieved as compared with the initial single unit design.
