摘要
Technology and technological development impact on training and practice in professional psychology and will continue to transform the field over the next several decades. Results from a rapid response survey of professional psychology training directors (academic and internship) suggest that there is a technology gap for Canadian professional psychology programs; trainees are generally exposed to technologies aimed at increasing efficiency but not the more recent advances in artificial intelligence or other advanced technologies. This article describes the intersection of advanced technologies and professional psychology to demonstrate that artificial intelligence and related technologies are already transforming service provision. We provide 3 key considerations for the successful integration of technology into professional practice and training: improving awareness of advanced technologies and the implications for training and practice, considerations regarding reliability and validity of the technology, and ethical, legal, and regulatory concerns. Potential instructional applications are also discussed. Public Significance Statement This paper advances the idea that technology is important to training in professional psychology. We suggest that trainees and training programs need to be more aware of advanced technologies, consider the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies, and be knowledgeable of ethical and legal concerns.
