Influence of Electric Field Type and Its Intensity on Contamination Accumulation Characteristics of Glass Specimen

The existed experience has pointed out that the contamination accumulation characteristics of insulator is significantly influenced by electric field. In order to further study the influence of electric field type and its intensity on the contamination characteristics, the artificial contamination accumulation test platform was developed in a test chamber with controllable temperature, humidity and wind speed. Uniform electric field was produced by grading board, a grounded metal net was used to filter the particles that were blown into the chamber, so as to get the particles with same initial charge. On the basis of the platform, the contamination tests in uniform electric field under constant temperature and humidity and windless condition was carried out. The results are as follows: Under the AC electric field, the electric field intensity has little effect on the amount of contamination accumulated on the surface of the specimen. Under the DC electric field, with the increase of the electric field intensity, the amount of contamination accumulated on the upper surface increases first and then decreases, the amount of contamination accumulated on the lower surface increases all the time. The amount of contamination accumulated on the surface of the specimen under the positive voltage is slightly larger than that under the negative polarity. The polarity effect is not obvious.
