Communication-Delay-Caused Errors In Process Monitoring Scenarios

Realistic plant and process simulations are common in nowadays engineering processes, e.g. for hardware-in-the-loop tests. Reusing these simulations to assess the behavior of plants at runtime seems natural and is already done for certain use cases. However, the application for a broader range of use cases requires to handle systematic errors caused by model uncertainties. One class of model uncertainties arises from the difference of the communication properties of the plant and its simulation. In this contribution, we show that communication properties have to be considered to enable meaningful comparison between plant and simulation. Furthermore, we introduce a method to consider communication-delay-caused uncertainties.
