摘要
Background: Serum albumin level is one of the prgnostic factors in chronic respiratory diseases. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the usefulness and prognostic significance of serum albumin in patients with NCFB. Methods: The medical records of 107 patients with NCFB were retrospectively reviewed. Eligible subjects were categorized into low (n=13) and normal (n=94) serum albumin group and clinical characteristics were compared. The performances of serum albumin, bronchiectasis severity index (BSI), and FACED score in predicting respiratory hospitalization were compared. Finally, predicting factors of respiratory hospitalization were analyzed. Results: Body mass index and FEV1 were lower, and mMRC dyspnea scale, percentage of pseudomonas colonization, FACED score, and BSI were higher in low albumin group. The area under the receiver operator characteristic curve of serum albumin, BSI, and FACED score for respiratory hospitalization was 0.84 (95% CI, 0.76-0.92), 0.87 (95% CI, 0.78-0.95), and 0.74 (95% CI, 0.62-0.89), respectively. Low albumin, pseudomonas colonization, and low bilirubin level were independent risk factors for respiratory hospitalization. Conclusion: Serum albumin level is a simple and relevant biomarker that correlates well with BSI and FACED score. Furthermore, low serum albumin is an independent predictor for respiratory hospitalization in patients with NCFB.
