Effects of ozonated sewage effluent on reproduction and behavioral endpoints in zebrafish (Danio rerio).

•Ozone removed pharmaceuticals in a sewage effluent by an average efficiency of 77%.•Fecundity and female maturation was highest in fish exposed to ozonated effluent.•Hepatic vitellogenin gene expression was elevated in males exposed to ozonated effluent.•Behavior was affected by the ozonated effluent indicating a stress response.
