This paper presents the design of linear controEers for the F-14 lateral-directional axis during powered approach using the structured singular value (fi) framework. Controllers are designed for a = 10.5 degrees angle-of-attack and implemented in a Simulink nonlinear simulation of the F-14 aircraft, the full order Fortran nonlinear and tested with a pilot-in-the-loop at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuxent River, Maryland. This fi controllers out perform the current digital flight control system Ln pilot-in-the-loop simulations.
