摘要
Gastrointestinal motility and transit are strongly inhibited during abdominal sepsis. Recently it was demonstrated, that inflammatory cytokines are drained into the visceral lymph after an insult to the GI tract and they mediate systemic responses. Specific AimTo determine whether mesenteric lymph collected during sepsis inhibits gastrointestinal motility and transit. MethodsMesenteric lymph was obtained from awake lymph fistula donor rats following vehicle (control) or LPS (sepsis model) injection (ip). Control or sepsis lymph were reinfused iv into recipient rats on two consecutive days. Gastric, small intestinal and colonic motility were recorded online using strain gauge transducers. Additionally gastric emptying in % and the small intestinal transit of a semi-solid Cr51 marked test meal were analysed after lymph infusion. ResultsSepsis lymph significantly inhibited gastric, small intestinal, and colonic motility in recipient rats as well as gastric emptying and small intestinal transit. The motility index was reduced by 54% and by 62% in the stomach and in the colon after infusion of sepsis lymph, respectively. ConclusionMediators in mesenteric lymph, possibly cytokines, may be responsible for inhibition of gastrointestinal motility and impaired gut function during sepsis.
