Purpose: To establish parameters to measure glenoid cavity erosions occurring in recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations (RASD). Methods: 93 anatomical samples of human scapulas were photographed at the glenoid cavity aspect with a digital camera. The images obtained were transferred to a computer, where preestablished areas and lineal segments were measured for the study. Their ratio was calculated afterwards. All data were tabulated and for mean, median, maximum values, minimum values and standard- deviation calculations. From those procedures, data were statistically analyzed. Results: The mean values of the upper segment were 18.27; mid-segment, of 23.97; and the lower segment was 23.96. The ratio between upper and lower segments was 0.76, and the ratio between total and partial areas was 0.08. Conclusions: The ratio between the upper segment (SHS) and the lower segment (SHI) was 0.76, and can be considered as a normality index; its variation provides the glenoid cavity anterior edge erosion percentage. Métodos: Foram analisadas 93 peças anatômicas de escápulas humanas fo- tografadas na face da cavidade glenoidal com uma câme- ra digital. As imagens obtidas foram transferidas para um computador, onde foram mensurados as áreas e os seg- mentos lineares preestabelecidos para o estudo. Posterior- mente, calculou-se a razão entre elas.
