This paper attempts to estimate the ship roll damping for a free-roll decay experiment. In general, roll damping governs a strongly nonlinear type of differential equations (when bilge keel is added in the ship design). These kinds of highly non-linear models are solved by approximation methods. Nevertheless, the estimation of numerical prediction for ship roll motion with bilge keel is specifically tricky. In the recent past, three dimensional CFD numerical simulations have applied for roll decay of ship model. However, the analytical solutions of nonlinear differential equations in the ship roll mo-tion have not yet been discussed. In this study, the analytical Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) identifies the roll decay of a ship bilge keel model with experimental validation. An efficient analytical HPM is utilized for finding the roll angle, roll velocity, damping, and restoring moments of the bilge keel models. For experimental data, the obtained analytical HPM results are highly accurate when compared with CFD.
