Joint Planning of Energy Storage and Distribution System Considering Network Reconfiguration

With the mass access of distributed generation (DG) and the increase of load level, the scale and network topology of distribution system need to be expanded and adjusted urgently. Energy storage (ES) system configuration and network reconfiguration can improve the source-load consumption capacity and operation flexibility of distribution systems. However, the previous researches on distribution system joint planning didn't take network reconfiguration as a planning option due to the complexity of the models and the large number of variables involved. In this paper, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) joint planning model of ES and distribution system is proposed, which takes the minimization of present value of the annualized total investment as the optimization objective, considers topology, construction, and operation constraints. The IEEE 24-node distribution system is used to verify the effectiveness of the brought joint planning model, while cases of no ES configuration, no network reconfiguration are introduced. The case studies verify that ES access and network reconfiguration has the effect of delaying the expansion of distribution system, improving the grid's loadability, and the total cost of case reconfigurable network with ES can be significantly reduced compared with other cases.
