Polymeric polyiodo-chlorotellurates(iv): new supramolecular hybrids in halometalate chemistry

Reaction between TeO2 and I(2 )in HCl afforded a series of supramolecular hybrids Cat(2){[TeCl6](I-2)} (1-5) where diiodine fragments are linked to [TeCl6](2)- octahedra via halogen bonds (XB). The compounds were characterized using X-ray diffraction, revealing one- and two-dimensional anionic motifs built via IMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISCl supramolecular interactions. Features of non-covalent interactions were studied via quantum chemistry methods and Raman spectroscopy. Compounds 1-3 showed relatively narrow band gaps of 1.50-1.59 eV.
