On-Chip Magnetothermal System for Single Micro-Particle Heating

A high-efficiency on-chip magnetothermal system is presented in this paper, the system realizes concentration and amplification of magnetic field inside the microfluidic device by means of double magnetic core coils. Compared with existing magnetic hyperthermia or induction heating equipments, this system can generate a significantly stronger magnetic field within the microfluidic device, enabling heating of a single magnetic or metallic particle as small as 100 μm through magnetothermal effect. Thus a temperature gradient field is generated in a local area of the device, which can be utilized in various biological and chemical reactions, as well as sample manipulation.
