Cylindrical Neural Electrodes Using Pre-Shaped Flexible Printed Circuit Made Of Liquid Crystal Polymer

Tube-shaped neural electrodes have been developed for use in combination with imaging technology using an ultra-fine fluorescence endoscope, but it has several structural and fabrication process issues. This study proposed a new fabrication method by wrapping a flexible substrate around the tube and adhering it to the tube to create a device that solves problems of previous studies. A thermoplastic liquid crystalline polymer was used as the flexible substrate to fabricate the device to reduce the restoring force when the flexible substrate is adhered to the tube. The fabricated devices were inserted into an anesthetized rat brain and measured EEG successfully.
