A Practical Auxiliary Circuit for Voltage Fluctuation Reduction in Multi-core CPU Power Supplies

This paper presents an auxiliary circuit designed to improve voltage regulation in voltage regulator modules (VRMs) applications. The proposed auxiliary circuit is compatible with most existing VRMs and effectively reduces voltage fluctuations in multi-core scenarios by dynamically adjusting its load connection, thereby minimizing the required output capacitance. Analysis of the improvement of voltage fluctuations by auxiliary circuits allows it to be easily deployed according to the target requirements. Simulation and experimental results validate the circuit's effectiveness, achieving a remarkable reduction in undershoot and overshoot of both cores with different voltage level by approximately 25% and 51%, respectively.
