Semiconductor Process Technology and Advances in Image Sensors

The main factor in popularization of camera is that the core component, the image sensor, can be made using a semiconductor process. Since Si absorbs the entire visible light and converts the incident light to the signal electrons, image sensor could be made of the Si. So image sensors have been able to develop along with semiconductor processes. This article reviewed two types of image sensors, the structure and operating principle of pixels, pixel performance items and the relation of these items. The initial digital camera almost used a CCD sensor, but the background to why CIS is now the main focus was explained.
