Textile industries plays a vital role in the augmentation of global economy attributed to the high-end demand for textiles and fabrics and demonstrated a vast pace growth post-pandemic period. The escalated production not only resulted in the global economy development but also led to the large-scale liberation of textile effluents (dyes and pigments) which poses as a severe threat to human and environmental health. Methylene Blue (MB) is one among the most widely utilized dye and ascribed to the mutagenic, carcinogenic, and persistent nature of MB, sequestration of MB from waterways are widely explored. This review focuses on the application of cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibers, fabricated by electrospinning for the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from wastewater. A comprehensive overview of the processing parameters, isotherm models, kinetics, and removal efficiencies achieved by different CA nanocomposites with various fillers is discussed. This study extends to desorption and reusability emphasizing the significance of regeneration for sustainability and waste reduction. Furthermore, insights into industrial scaling and future directions highlight the potential of electro-spun CA in various applications.
