Development of Magnetic-pulse Compression Device for Nanosecond Capillary Discharge Generator

The paper describes a magnetic compression system designed for a semiconductor-based high-amplitude voltage pulse generator. The design of the system as well as theoretical and experimental study of its main characteristics (including temperature dependences) are presented. It is shown that the developed magnetic compression system as part of a high-voltage pulse generator operating in a frequency-burst mode is capable of charging the capacitance of a gas-discharge-based soft X-ray radiation source to a voltage of more than 20 kV in a time of about 400 ns.
