摘要
Extracellular diffusion coupled with degradation is considered as the dominant mechanism behind the establishment of morphogen gradients. However, the fundamental nature of these biophysical processes visa viz the Bicoid (Bcd) morphogen gradient remains unclear. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) has recently revealed multiple modes of Bcd transport at different spatial and temporal locations across the embryo. We here show that these observations, and a few others, are fitted by a model fundamentally based on quantum mechanics. We also indicate that the abstract and auxiliary feature called chirality of the said formalism finds a natural expression in our model of the Bcd gradient formation that might be verified in future experiments on the system. ### Competing Interest Statement The authors have declared no competing interest.
