High-Gain Broadband Dual-Polarized Antenna Employing Metasurface

A high-gain, broadband dual-polarized antenna based on metasurface (MS) is proposed. The MS consists of a 6 * 6 array of complementary units. The top of the designed unit is a cross-shaped unit, and the bottom is square patches unit. The square patches MS provides sufficient phase compensation at high frequencies, which can enhance gain by focusing electromagnetic waves at high frequencies. The function of the cross-shaped MS is to improve impedance matching and broaden bandwidth. By combining the advantages of two types of MSs, broadband and high-gain are achieved. The measured results indicate that the gain is above 10 dBi in the range of 2.4 to 4 GHz. The antenna has a 10 dB return loss of 82.4% (1.75-4.2 GHz) and an isolation exceeding 30 dB. Additionally, the antenna maintains stable radiation patterns within the entire operating frequency range.
