摘要
The existing body of scientific evidence provides a foundational understanding of somnambulism, but critical areas necessitate further investigation to deepen comprehension of this complex phenomenon. First, the diagnostic approach relies primarily on clinical criteria, which do not consistently align with current scientific knowledge. Future research should prioritize the establishment of precise and objective criteria that can be integrated into classification systems. Second, the etiopathological processes, particularly genetic and neurobiological factors, require deeper exploration to shed light on the origins of SW. In addition, research should focus on elucidating the specific impact of SW on specific cognitive domains and psychological well-being, as current findings are conflicting. Last, studies using objective measurements are essential to corroborate the effectiveness of treatment options for SW, ensuring optimal management of this disorder. In conclusion, although our understanding of somnambulism has advanced significantly, these knowledge gaps underscore the importance of ongoing and future research endeavors. Addressing these uncertainties will refine our comprehension, enhance diagnostic precision, and lead to more effective treatments, ultimately improving the well-being of individuals affected by this intriguing sleep disorder.
