摘要
Microplastic pollution in estuarine, coastal and riverine areas is considered a serious environmental and human health concern in Vietnam. The present study investigated potential sources, location, transport, and environmental impacts of microplastics in Vietnamese aquatic environments through a literature review and scientometrics analysis. Findings indicated that the distribution and severity of microplastic pollution in the country is influenced by a complex interplay of environmental, geomorphological, and climatic factors, as well as those related to urban and industrial development, population behavior, law enforcement capabilities, and environmental education. Additionally, this research explored potential solutions, drawing from artificial intelligence applications identified through a scientometrics analysis, to propose effective measures for curbing microplastic pollution in Vietnam.
