Fibrates and risk of congenital malformations: a nationwide cohort study in South Korea

To examine the association between maternal prescriptions for fibrates and congenital malformations in live births. Nationwide retrospective cohort study was conducted using the data sourced from the Korean National Health Insurance database. A cohort of 756,877 completed pregnancies linked to live-born infants in 215,600 women with dyslipidemia between 2012 and 2021. The study compared data on congenital anomalies between pregnancies who were exposed to fibrates and those who were not exposed to fibrates in the first trimester.
