Ultra-wideband Transmistarray Antenna Design Based on Polarization Conversion Approach

An ultra-wideband transmitarray antenna operating at 17-30 GHz is proposed based on the polarization conversion approach. The designed element has a simple three-layer conductive structure, consisting of a C-shaped split ring and two orthogonal metal gratings printed on two identical substrates. The element has achieved a 360° phase control range while the transmission loss is less than 1dB. Then a transmitarray antenna with 150×150 mm 2 aperture area is designed and simulated. The transmitarray obtains a gain of 29.2 dB and an aperture efficiency of 66.2% at the center frequency of 20 GHz. Additionally, the 1-dB gain bandwidth of the antenna is 36.7%(20GHz~29GHz).
