A Wide Beamwidth Magnetoelectric Dipole Antenna Based on SISL for Ka-Band Communication

A wide-beamwidth magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna based on substrate integrated suspended line (SISL) for Ka-band applications is proposed. The SISL is used to reduce the loss, and have a self-packaging property. The ME dipole comprises trapezoidal patches and short-circuited metallized vias, and is fed by a microstrip-slotline transition. The structure is designed to effectively broaden the beamwidth. The emulation results indicate that the antenna realizes a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 23.29% in the frequency band scope of 27.89 GHz - 34.41 GHz. The beamwidth in the E-plane and H-plane is 105 ° and 117 °. Moreover, the antenna has stable radiation patterns and low back radiation characteristics within the operating frequency band.
