摘要
The performance of smartphone applications heavily relies on the quality of service (QoS) they receive, especially for real-time gaming and video calling. However, many applications lack proper QoS configurations, leading to suboptimal user experiences. To address this issue, we propose QBOX (Quality Box), an innovative approach that leverages the power of Extended Berkeley Packet Filters (eBPF) for enhancing QoS in smartphone applications.QBOX dynamically detects real-time traffic and identifies applications requiring priority handling. It then modifies the Type of Service (ToS) values for IPv4 and Traffic Class (TC) values for IPv6 packets to prioritize real-time applications during data transmission. Furthermore, QBOX upgrades the Wi-Fi priority access category to Video (VI), ensuring efficient and reliable data delivery. To evaluate QBOX, we extensively tested various popular gaming and video calling applications on Android smartphones. The results demonstrate a remarkable 100% detection accuracy for real-time applications. Additionally, QBOX's QoS enhancements substantially improve application latency by up to 24%, resulting in smoother and more responsive experiences. The solution is tech-transferred and is part of all Samsung devices with Android 13 OS.
