Scouting the efficacy of targeted gold nanoparticles in the landscape of cancer therapy

Treating a grievous disease like cancer requires a highly effective, non -intrusive therapy with minimum associated complications. Gold nanoparticles have been a pioneer in bioengineered cancer treatment, thanks to their outstanding optical characteristics. This theranostic approach has become extremely popular and has applications in the areas of molecular recognition, biological scanning, neoplastic cell targeting, etc. The photothermal feature of gold nano -carriers, permits light from the source of illumination to be absorbed and converted into heat, which destructs cancerous cells. However, the issue of targeting non -cancerous cells still persists with gold nanoparticles as well. For this, active targeting of cancer cells via various biomolecules has been reported. This article discusses the recent work on using biomolecules in combination with gold nanoparticles for the treatment of several types of cancers.
