Electrochemical Sensors and Instruments: Main Characteristics and Applications

This paper reviews some important topics related with electrochemical sensors and their importance in the instrumentation and measurement areas. In the introduction some advantages and critical points related with the usage of electrochemical sensors are underlined. In the second part of the paper working principles and measurement techniques, used in electrochemical measurement systems are focused and some implementation details are mentioned. The last part of the paper exemplifies the usage of electrochemical sensors in three application areas, namely, water quality assessment, ambient assisted living and biomedical analysis, where the authors of this paper dedicate a significative part of their re-search activity.
