摘要
This study aims to expand the application of a solar still prototype previously developed for use in rural areas in Indonesia. Sumba Island was chosen as the primary location because it has high solar irradiance while facing water scarcity. The solar still is constructed using affordable and accessible materials without complex fabrication or installation processes. This design allows local communities to replicate the technique and easily tackle water scarcity. The materials used in construction include towels, polystyrene foam blocks, mica sheets, PVC pipes, and joints. The testing was conducted at three locations in Indonesia: Bandung, Jatiluhur Dam, and Sumba Island. The results demonstrate that the solar still can effectively produce a significant amount of water, up to 1.7 l/day in Sumba. Additionally, a salinity test was conducted, which indicated a necessary reduction in salinity from 3.2 % to 0 % in the water produced by the solar still. Overall, the study shows the potential of solar still as a low-cost and accessible solution to water scarcity challenges, especially in rural areas.
