Emissions and ownership-cost of conventional and electric passenger vehicles in Bogotá, Colombia

•Electric vehicles are projected to be cost-effective in reducing emissions.•Electric vehicle's total ownership cost is expected to decrease next five years.•Electric vehicles can lower most direct emissions, except wear and resuspension.•Battery electric vehicle emission reductions depend strongly on the energy mix.•Colombian electric mix (70 % hydropower) potentially favors electric vehicles.
