Smart farming has become increasingly reliant on the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and data analytics to optimize production processes and reduce resource waste. However, secure access to sensitive data and the efficient sharing of information among stakeholders in this context remain a challenge. To address this, we propose a semantically enriched access control architecture for smart farms, which enriches access requests with semantic smart farm information derived from smart farm-specific ontologies before evaluation. Additionally, we explore the feasibility of deploying the proposed ABAC architecture on the edge area, which makes it suitable for distributed environments like smart farms. Our proposed approach improves the accuracy of access control decisions and reduces the complexity of policy management tasks while taking into account the smart farm's nature limitations. To validate our approach, we evaluate it through a case study that simulates access control scenarios in a smart farm. Our results show that the proposed approach significantly enhances access control decision-making in smart farming environments.
