Design of a 2-bit Unit for Amplifying Information Metasurface

Traditional information metasurfaces suffer from inherent non-negligible ohmic losses from the tunable elements, which brings a large challenge for efficient wave manipulation. To solve this problem, a novel amplifying information metasurface unit (AIMU) is proposed in this paper for energy enhancement and 2-bit phase modulation for incident electromagnetic (EM) waves. The simulation results demonstrate that the achieved gain of AIMU is more than 10 dB, and the maximum phase variation at each phase state is less than 22.5° from 2.8 to 3.2 GHz. The proposed AIMU exhibits excellent phase stability and amplifying capability, which may find critical applications in wireless communication systems.
