Depression, anxiety and stress among patients with dialysis in a tertiary hospital of Vietnam in 2022

Background: To understand depression, anxiety, and stress among dialysis patients in a tertiary hospital in Vietnam and to pinpoint risk factors, this study examined these conditions.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2022 at Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 127 patients participated in the study. Those eligible participants completed a structured questionnaire with demographic information, clinical information, and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) questionnaires in Vietnamese. Multivariate Tobit regression was performed to identify associated factors.Results: There were 35.4% of patients had depression, 39.4% had anxiety, and 31.5% had stress. Farmers/Workers had lower scores of depression, anxiety, and stress than those unemployed. Patients with > = 10 million VND per month had lower scores in all three mental states compared to those with below 10 million VND. Patients suffering a higher number of symptoms had higher scores in depression, anxiety, and stress.Conclusion: Management plans for psychological symptoms amongst dialysis patients as well as medical treatment, possible psychotherapy, and creating awareness should take into consideration.
