TCP and UDP Traffic Performance Trade-off on VRRP-BGP Routing Protocol in VyOS

Failure in the internet connection can be caused either by a device or link problem. In fact, the gateway router as the only path to the internet service provider network can also experience downs. To overcome the issue, it is necessary to add a backup router as an alternative. One method to run the backup process is by using a virtual router redundancy protocol. This study focuses on analyzing the performance of virtual router redundancy protocol by utilizing the border gateway protocol to support the internet connections between different internet service provider networks using VyOS routers. The test is carried out with the scenario of main and backup links for TCP and UDP traffic. The result shows the quality of service parameters including throughput, delay, jitter, packet loss, and convergence time between the main and the backup link.
