One step cleanup of 160 pesticides and veterinary drugs in aquatic products using melamine-based automatic pressure filtration purification method combined with HPLC-MS/MS

•A low-cost multi-channel pressure filtration purification method was developed, together with a laboratory-fabricated device, able to simultaneously purify up to 15 samples per run.•A unique adsorbent of melamine sponge was selected for rapid and effective purification of pesticide and veterinary drug residues in aquatic products.•A rapid high throughput method was finally established by coupling the novel sample pretreatment approach with HPLC-MS/MS and validated to be applicable to the simultaneous quantification of 160 pesticide and veterinary drug residues in aquatic products.•A health risk assessment was conducted on pesticides and veterinary drug residues in aquatic products from five coastal provinces in China.
