摘要

•6-azophenylcoumarin-3-formamido derivatives were synthesized and characterized.•Compounds 6 and 8 exhibited higher anti-cancer activities with lower cytotoxicity.•Compounds 6 and 8 could induce apoptosis and arrest the cell cycle.•UV and FL spectroscopy indicated that 6 and 8 bound to DNA via intercalation.
