On Complete Clinical Response of Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Prostate After Definitive Concurrent Chemoradiation

Acinar adenocarcinoma comprises most cases of prostate cancer, but other histologic variants have been reported. Basal cell carcinoma is a rare epithelial subtype of prostate cancer that presents with normal levels of prostate-specific antigen. There are only a limited number of reports in the medical literature and no standard treatment approach has been proposed. We present here a case report of a patient incidentally diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma of the prostate with disease involvement of the corpus spongiosum, successfully treated with definitive external beam radiation therapy and concurrent platinum-based chemotherapy.
