•Zc3h12d was mainly upregulated in the cortex area after CIRI.•Zc3h12d can inhibit inflammation and suppress neuronal apoptosis by regulating the NF-κB pathway.•Zc3h12d can also shorten the half-life of IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6.
