Investigation of 5G RU Placement Using 2D Radio Propagation Simulation

Investigations on location of placement of 5G radio units (RUs) using a 2D radio propagation simulation tool is carried out. Specifically, a set of locations are investigated for the placement of two RUs in a campus block with indoor/outdoor environment. A Motley-Keenan multi-wall radio propagation modeling tool is used for the analysis. The investigation is carried out by defining two objective functions viz.,. a) maximizing radio coverage in the desired regions and b) reducing the interference between the two RUs. From the Pareto front, thus obtained with both the objective functions, optimal locations for placement of the 2 RUs are identified.
