Opportunities and challenges for metaverse application in oral cancer

•While conventional techniques of oral cancer detection, treatment, and awareness-raising are somewhat effective, they often do not reach a broad population.•The metaverse makes use of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality offering an excellent tool for providing invaluable, high-quality medical services and treatments.•The metaverse has the potential to influence diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and recovery of cancer patients as well as patient education and healthcare professionals' training.•Future research must explore addressing the financial, behavioural, and legal aspects of meta-verse in oral cancer care.
