A Low RCS Microstrip Antenna Based on AMC Metasurface

In this paper, a chessboard metasurface with artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) units is designed. With the aid of the equivalent circuit model (ECM) analysis method and the phase cancellation principle to achieve RCS reduction, two kinds of AMC units are designed, which can achieve 180 °± 37 ° phase difference in a wide frequency bandwidth. The chessboard metasurface is then loaded onto the microstrip antenna, and the RCS of the antenna is greatly reduced. Under the normal incidence of electromagnetic waves, the 10dB RCS reduction can achieve within frequency bandwidth of 7.81-14.76 GHz. When the oblique incidence angle of the electromagnetic wave is less than or equal to 50 °, the RCS reduction performance of the antenna has relatively good stability.
