A Reconfigurable Circularly Polarized Electrically Activated Split-Ring Slot Antenna With Simple Bias Decoupling Feed Network

This paper proposes a new and simple electrically-controlled slot antenna design for circular polarization (CP) switching function. The antenna includes a ring-slot structure for a radiating element, and the microstrip lines for a feed network. To function together, they are designed on either side of the single-layer substrate. Switchable shorted branches are mainly employed to electrically realize the split-ring slot principle for CP diversity. Also, the feed network can avoid any additional lumped components for bias decoupling. The simulated and experimental verifications are further presented to confirm the proposed concept. Both results demonstrate that the proposed structure ensures for CP reconfigurability with simple biasing and design flexibility for arrays.
