A New Consequent Pole Flux-Reversal Permanent Magnet Machine with Auxiliary Teeth

This paper proposes a new consequence pole (CP) flux-reversal permanent magnet (PM) machine with auxiliary teeth (FRATPMM). The proposed FRATPMM using CP PM arrangement can effectively improve the PM utilization. In addition, the machine employs an auxiliary tooth between every two main teeth, which can not only realize the isolation between the phase windings, but also beneficial to reduce the PM flux leakage. The topology and working principle of the proposed FRATPMM are described. The electromagnetic performances of the proposed FRATPMM and a conventional flux reversal PM machine (FRPMM) are compared using finite element analysis. The results show that the proposed machine can offer 48.6% higher back-EMF amplitude and 38.4% higher torque under 23.2% lower PM usage than the conventional FRPMM.
